Run your first query

Opening the client, pointing it at an endpoint, running a query with variables, and finding it in History. Narrated, with sound. The dark and light versions follow the site's theme.
  1. Open the client from the toolbar icon.
  2. Enter the endpoint in the request bar, for example http://127.0.0.1:4400/graphql.
  3. Write a query in the Query editor. It highlights GraphQL and, once a schema is loaded, autocompletes and lints it.
  4. Add variables in the Variables editor below as a JSON object.
  5. Press Run, or Ctrl/⌘ + Enter.
query Greet($name: String) {
hello(name: $name)
}
{ "name": "Ada" }

The response opens in the Tree viewer. Pretty shows indented JSON, Raw shows it compact, and Table turns an array of objects into a grid. See the response viewer.

  • POST is the default. Choose GET in the method select to send the query as URL parameters.
  • Headers are a JSON object in the Headers editor, for example { "authorization": "Bearer …" }.
  • Send cookies is off by default. Tick it to send the browser’s cookies for the endpoint.

Every run is added to History in the side panel, with its endpoint, query, variables and headers. Click an entry to reopen it. History keeps 200 entries by default; change that in Settings.
